I have made three dresses for Finley now, and the second is this shirred sundress. I used the pattern from Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross. It is a sweet little thing, and the pattern was pretty easy to follow. The only change I made was to add a couple inches in length. I love long dresses on babies.
Sewing with elastic thread in my bobbin turned out to be pretty easy. I was a little hesitant, I have heard that it can be pretty problematic. I'm happy to say it went smoothly in my Janome. Once I added some steam, and shrunk so nicely.
I have to admit, I think I've been spoiled by sewing tutorials on the Internet. The ones I've used tend to be very thorough with tons of pictures. Using a pattern from book is not quite the same. Like I said... Spoiled.
I tried to snap some shots of Finley in her dress, but she was not being very helpful. It is hard to take pictures of a busy 14 month baby!

Oh my, I'm loving her litle dress. I wonder if my 6-year old granddaughter would wear something like that? I certainly didn't know there was such a thing as elastic in the bobbin. I thought you needed a special machine to do that. Hmmm...I really do learn something every day.
ReplyDeleteaww, this is so sweet. I remember when my girls were little and I could make them little dresses. Now I just get the frantic girls at prom and homecoming needing some alterations.
ReplyDeleteso cute!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my word. How adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am very spoiled by internet tutorials as well. I made something from Stitch magazine recently and it only had one picture. I had a ton of issues! So much was left to interpretation. Love the little dress.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Makes me wish I had a little girl to wear little dresses! My boys would look silly!
ReplyDeleteShe is a cutie. That dress looks adorable on her. My daughter when she was that age refused to wear dresses. She would throw a fit.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute little dress {and baby girl}!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I do love that dress! Cute little cherub you have there too. Pretty fabric and lovely design. I might give shirring a go myself after seeing how well yours went. They look so easy to put together.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is beautiful. This is my first visit, and I might be hooked. Good job on the dress. I love elastic thread!

Very Cute! Love the fabric + pattern selection. Turned out very well. Finely is beautiful in it too!
ReplyDeleteLook at you getting all good with clothes! Elastic thread is pretty awesome, huh?
ReplyDeleteSo adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I keep forgetting to buy elastic thread when I go fabric shopping because i'm dying to play with it.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, that's so cute. I have a yard of that same fabric sitting in my stash...
ReplyDeleteShe is a doll, and the dress is terrific. Good job!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's so darling! Baby's in long dresses are the cutest thing, not to mention they can wear them longer. Smart mama =)
ReplyDeleteI love that dress. It is like the dresses I grew up wearing! She looks so sweet in it!!
ReplyDeleteso cute and great photos.
ReplyDeleteOh, there's that Finley face again! That dress is too cute; I've tried shirring on my machine but it never goes well - maybe I should try again!!
ReplyDeleteThat is about the cutest dress I've ever seen! I've been toying with trying shirring, but with three boys I just don't have any cute little gals to make dresses for (though I've seen tutorials for grown-up skirts...maybe someday).
